DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Local pastors with a group called Ceasefire Dayton are calling for peace in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook.
"If we didn't have guns so readily available, we would not have the problems we have on Friday and Saturday nights here and in other urban communities," said Rev. Jerome McCorry, Ceasefire Dayton.
The group met Friday at the Dayton Metro Library downtown.
Ceasefire Dayton says it will protest outside of the Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife Show this weekend at Hara Arena.
The group will be yell the names of the victims in Connecticut during their protest.
"We have had these tragedies before. We have allowed the moments to pass and on behalf of Ceasefire Dayton, I just don't think this moment should pass without us standing up."
We contacted Hara Arena and Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife show for comment. They referred us to a statement made earlier this week. It said, "We strongly believe that you can't protect people by rendering them defenseless against people intent on causing harm. Banning guns won't keep them out of the hands of criminals any more than banning drugs ended
illegal drug use.
