GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The family dog and a working smoke detector are credited with alerting a Darke County family to a fire in their home, firefighters said Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 500 block of Sater Street in Greenville around 9 a.m.
Five children and three adults managed to escape without injury. The Red Cross was called in to assist them with food and shelter.
Firefighters said the fire was started by a juvenile playing with a lighter.
