SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A 72-year prison sentence should keep a convicted rapist off the streets for the rest of his life.

Robert Nesser, 40, was sentenced in Springfield Tuesday.

He was convicted of kidnapping a woman for two days in May 2012.

Investigators say Nesser brutally beat and raped his victim several times at different locations around Springfield.

Prosecutors say though this situation is horrible, there's a lesson to be learned.

"I think the most important lesson is for victims of domestic violence to speak out. To come forward. Our office has a team to work on domestic violence cases," said Amy Smith, Asst. Clark County Prosecutor.

The victim was not in court, but prosecutors say she still has pain in her shoulders and back and suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.
