CLARK COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - Shane Stokes listened to a judge hand down his sentence in a Clark County courtroom Tuesday morning for causing a high speed chase spanning four counties back in September 2012.
Authorities said Stokes committed at least two armed robberies in the Dayton area before the chase started. It traveled through Clark, Champaign, Montgomery and Greene counties before finally coming to an end.
Stokes' attorney told the judge his client was high at the time and is getting help with his drug addiction. Stokes appeared remorseful for what he did.
"I would just like to apologize for what's going on. What has occurred," said Stokes.
The judge sentenced Stokes to two years in prison for aggravated vehicular assault and three years for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Stokes must also must also pay $2500 in court restitution.
The judge said his decision was based on the chase as well Stokes' previous extensive criminal history. It includes assault, theft and burglary convictions. All of those happened within the last five years.
