TV ads set against review of Ind. school standards

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An advocacy group that supports Indiana's charter schools program says it's starting a television and radio campaign opposing an effort to suspend adoption of the Common Core national reading and math standards.

The state Senate last month approved a bill to require statewide hearings by the state Board of Education on whether those standards should be kept after a few hundred Common Core opponents attended a Statehouse rally in January.

The advocacy group Stand for Children announced the ad campaign Tuesday, saying the proposal is an assault on good national benchmarks. The group won't say how much it's spending on ads, but says they'll air statewide.

Bill supporter Sen. Dennis Kruse of Auburn says the public should have more say about the standards.
