DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -  It was a slippery start to the last weekend in January as snow began to fall during Friday's morning commute.

Photos: Snow blankets the Miami Valley

It blew in from the northwest and gradually moved across the region from north to south before moving off to the east.

Along its path, and in its wake, it left slick roads and as much as four inches of accumulation recorded at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Slide-off crashes were reported across the region, and predictably, traffic was slow on the interstate highways and US 35.

In Clark County, a serious crash was reported on  Selma Road.

In Logan County, the Sheriff declared a Level 1 Snow Emergency.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol asks you not call authorities or 911 to check road and traffic conditions.  Instead, you can do that by going to the Ohio Department of Transportation's new website .

Storm Team 2 meteorologist Jamie Jarosik said for the remainder of the day to expect a light drizzle, but no more accumulating snow. The high today will reach the mid-20s, then temperatures will fall back into the teens overnight.

A second storm system will arrive Sunday night. Current forecasts predict snow, sleet, and freezing rain will be possible Sunday night before changing over to all rain for the day on Monday.

The Storm Team 2 meteorologists will be tracking these storms and will have the most up-to-date information available online at WDTN.com and on 2 NEWS Today at 4:30 a.m ., on 2 NEWS Today on Dayton's CW at 7 a.m ., 2 NEWS beginning at 5 p.m ., 2 News at 10 p.m . on Dayton's CW , and 2 NEWS at 11 p.m .
