Mom brings daughter's ashes to court

URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) - "I can't bring her back or take away the pain but I am sorry." Matthew Puccio cried in the Champaign County courtroom as the judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 42 years in the brutal murder and dismemberment of his girlfriend, Jessica Sacco.

"I do feel bad for what I did.  Ms Sacco never deserved this. I was supposed to be the one to protect her and I couldn't do that," said Puccio.

But Jessica's mother doesn't buy Puccio's apology.

"I find him a narcissist. I find him an expert at knowing how to manipulate. He likes to tell stories that aren't true," said Susan Taynor, victim's mother.

She brought Jessica's ashes to court with her and says the sentence gives her family a sense of closure.

"So many families, unfortunately, do not get this justice. We are just very, very lucky and realize how lucky we are that they were captured and we did get this justice."

Jessica would've turned 22 next week and her family plans to celebrate in order to keep her memory alive.

"We're going to get a really big cake and we'll probably celebrate it out in her garden and celebrate it probably like we would any other day and just remember how much she's missed."
