Are You Ready to Get Your Kindness On?

National Random Acts of Kindness Week

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern:  the dictionary definition of random. When it stands alone the word speaks for itself, but when placed before three other words it can inspire limitless definition.

Random Acts of Kindness.

There is a whole week dedicated to the little things we can do for others. The aptly named, Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, has designated February 11-17 as Random Acts of Kindess Week, or RAK Week for short.

I am asking you to participate with me. This could include individuals, parents and kids, businesses or schools. These random acts do not have to be extravagant gestures. The foundation offers the following suggestions:

- Give Carepacks to the Homeless
- Hold the Door Open for Someone
- Let Someone Go in Line in Front of You
- Pay the Tab for the Person Behind You
- Return a Shopping Cart
- Pick Up Trash
- Be Kind To Someone You Dislike
- Send Flowers
- Cook a Meal for Someone
- Shovel Snow for a Neighbor
- Be Generous With Compliments
- Forgive Someone

We have a plan. We have a purpose. And, our pattern will be felt by those we impact with random acts of kindness - not to exclude the personal benefits gained by stepping outside of ourselves.

One last wish. I hope that we can share our random acts of kindness online - not in a boastful way - but so others may be inspired when they read them.

On Twitter, use the hashtag #raokohio to briefly relay what you did. On Facebook, post your act accompanied with the hashtag, to my page, Katie Ussin WDTN.
e.g. "made a valentine for my elderly neighbor #RAOKOhio"

Or, e-mail me at KUssin@WDTN.com.

No matter how big or small, if we make a concerted effort I believe we can accomplish something great.
