DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The flu is widespread in more than 40 states and health officials have blamed the illness for the deaths of at least 20 children.

In the day ahead, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is expected to release its latest flu count and they're expecting a big jump in the numbers.

Experts say this year's flu is highly infectious and can spread quickly.

Though it's late in the season, many people are rushing out to get a flu shot. The centers for disease control says 135 million doses of the flu vaccine were made and 128 million have already been distributed.

Experts say if someone with the flu sneezes or coughs you can be infected up to six feet away.

Here in our area, a 22-year-old Fairborn woman has died, and officials say influenza may be to blame. 2 NEWS has confirmed Amelia Perry was hospitalized with flu symptoms, and tested positive for Influenza A following her death Tuesday. The Montgomery County Coroner is not releasing her cause of death at this time.
